New Norscot Model Depicts Popular 1960-Era Cat® 966A Traxcavator

Expanding its line of historic replicas, Norscot, in association with the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club (www.acmoc.org), has issued a new die-cast scale model of the Cat® 966A Traxcavator.

The 966A machine was introduced in 1960. This was just a year after Caterpillar began production of rubber-tired wheel loaders, which at the time shared the name “Traxcavator” with the company’s track-based loaders. The 966A machine featured a 2-3/4 cubic yard bucket and was powered by a 140 HP, six-cylinder Cat D333 diesel engine.

Key features of Norscot’s 1:50 scale model include:

  • Heavy die-cast metal construction
  • Authentic detailing on exterior and operator’s compartment
  • Vintage paint scheme
  • Tampo printed decoration
  • Wheels with authentic tire tread detailing
  • Imprinted base with clear display cover

“This model combines outstanding construction and great detailing while representing a machine that helped Caterpillar become one of the world’s leading producers of rubber-tired wheel loaders,” said Scott Stern, Norscot’s president and CEO.
